Sunshine but Cool

The sun was out today and the winds subsided making for a cool but pleasant day and a high of -4 C. It sure was a change from Monday when we seen very strong winds, numerous power outages throughout the day and mostly cloudy skies but it remained dry. Today's low was -10 C making it the coldest of the season although tonight is looking to be colder.

We are expecting sunny skies tomorrow with increasing clouds and a chance of late flurries with an excellent chance of snow on Thursday and highs struggling to make it near freezing.

Dry but Chilly

Although it hasn't been that cold in Chilliwack we have had high windchills making it feel uncomfortably cold. Friday night and into Saturday Vancouver got hit with a significant snowfall, as much 15 centimeters in some areas. Here we got nothing but this morning there were some flurries with moderate winds. There wasn't much evidence of the white stuff in Sardis but in Chilliwack there was some on the side of the roads and trace amounts on the grass.

The cold is expected to continue until Thursday when temperatures rise above freezing with snow possibly changing to rain. Tuesday and Wednesday are looking like the coldest with forecast lows near -10 C.

On Sunday we had the highest 24-hour rain total for the entire year with 33.8 mm falling. It was the highest daily total since last November 25 when we received 41 mm on that day. Last nice day

Today was a perfect day with a high of 22°C after a morning low 11°C. It was mostly sunny with enough wind to keep it comfortable. Clouds have already moved in this evening and we are expecting rain to begin sometime after midnight and continuing throughout the day on Tuesday with a high of 15°C. Wednesday looks much the same with highs of 14°C and periods of rain. Thursday is expected to be above 20°C with a good chance of showers but then skies clear out and Friday looks great with highs of 25°C.

Weather For the Month July

July was the driest month I've ever experienced anywhere as we received just 0.8 mm of rain. Normally Chilliwack gets around 54 mm of rain for the entire month of July. As for daytime high temperatures we were nearly 1 degree above normal at 25.3°C. We only had 3 days over 30°C, those came on the 7th, 8th and 9th where we had temperatures of 34°C, 34°C and 32°C respectively. Other than that the month was comfortable with highs for the most part hitting the mid 20's with lots of sunshine.

Thunderstorm!

We finally seen our first summer thunderstorm this year but unfortunately it only brought a trace of precipitation. There was some thunder in the morning and also mid-afternoon with the temperature reaching 24°C after a mild overnight low of 16°C. Environment Canada is forecasting a 60% chance of showers with the risk of more thunderstorms along with an expected high of 29°C tomorrow.

Dry July

Just one day remains in July and we've received just 0.8 mm of rain this month, easily the driest I've ever experienced. Today was another great day with a high of 27°C under sunny skies but clouds are expected to move in tomorrow with a 40% chance of thunderstorms.

June Month in Review

Overall June was a gloomy month with just 3 days of sunny or mostly sunny days. Although we had 93.2 mm of rain, half of that came the 2nd (27.6 mm) and on the 9th (20 mm). So most of the month consisted of mostly cloudy skies, overall not that bad.

We were 2.1°C below normal for a daytime high but slightly above normal for the overnight low because of all the cloud cover we had.

Avg. High: 18.9°C
Avg. Low: 11.4°C

Another Hot One!

Thursday was the second consecutive day at 34°C but again the humidity was low. The morning low was 16°C at the farm but into the city the temperature only bottomed out at 18°C to 19°C.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Hot!

The temperature got higher than forecast as we hit 34°C late this afternoon under clear skies. If there is something positive about this is that the humidity was down to a low 23% this afternoon making it slightly more bearable, I suppose. Another 34°C day is expected tomorrow but after that it should cool slightly into the low 30's to high 20's.

Hot Weather on the Way

July has started out like June finished, mostly cloudy but with very little rainfall. For those who love the heat (me not being one of them) smokin' hot weather is on the way with temperatures expected to hit 32 to 33 degrees from Wednesday to Saturday. Talk about one extreme to the next! After tomorrow we expect clear skies and should remain sunny for the rest of the week.

Sunday
High: 17°C
Low: 13°C

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Wednesday June 23 tied for the hottest day of the year at 26°C. On April 19 we also hit 26°C. Today started out with high clouds which mostly cleared out by early afternoon. Clouds increased by early evening once again and even brought a very brief shower just past midnight. So far in June we've had 74.4 mm of rain with 11 of the 23 days having at least a trace amount of rainfall.

A dry day

Tuesday was a great day with lots of high clouds but plenty of sunshine also as we topped out at 23°C after a morning low of 8°C. This was just the second day without any rain this month. We've had 39.2 mm of rain so far through eight days compared to 21.4 mm in the entire month of June last year! June 2009 also started out started with 4 consecutive days of 30°C or hotter temperatures with 33°C being the hottest on the 4th.

Weather For the Month of May 2010

Although it may have seemed like a lousy month, the averages for May were only slightly below normal. We managed an average high of 17.5°C below the normal of 18°C and an average low of 7.0°C a full degree below the normal of 8°C. As for rainfall, we were soaked with 109.3 mm, normally we receive just under 100 mm for the month. Our warmest days were the 14th, 15th and 16th when we hit 24°C each of those days. As for our coldest day, that happened the morning of the 5th when we dipped to a chilly +1°C.

Although we received more precipitation in May 2009, 124 mm to be exact, we were more than 2 degrees warmer for an average high.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

We finally managed to hit 20°C for the first time since last Wednesday, although it was warm outside it was mostly cloudy. At least we're not seeing much rain like Calgary is expecting on Saturday with just 4°C forecast for the high! I wouldn't be surprised if they seen some snow mixed in there. For here it is looking like a showery week with Friday bringing rain and highs ranging from 12°C to 20°C with Sunday being dry but overcast.

materialized. The weather station did pick up a 61 km/h wind gust on late Wednesday afternoon. Alright so I hate wind but it was cool to see the high numbers.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch!

There is a potential for severe thunderstorms here in Chilliwack this afternoon, yay! If it does happen it would indeed be rare for here, oh how I miss them. This morning was nice and mostly sunny but the clouds are now moving in as we at least expect some rain.

Yesterday was rainy except for a break with some sun between 2.30 and 5.30 pm. We received 22 mm of rain and managed a high of 16°C.

Finally got the weather station I've been wanting for quite some time now, a Davis Vantage Pro2, some of the most accurate home weather stations out there. Got it all up and running last Saturday, wasn't that difficult of a set-up.

Thursday's weather

High: 21.5°C

Low: 4.1°C

Peak winds: 21 km/h

Pretty nice day with sunny skies other than a few clouds hanging over the mountains.
Expecting nice weather until Sunday when there is a chance of showers but tomorrow is looking quite good with highs of 23C forecast with bright blue skies.

Wednesday's weather

High: 18.3°C

Low: 5.6°C

Peak winds: 27 km/h

Lots of high clouds on Wednesday but was quite breezy with winds peaking at 27 km/h.
